The farm “Poggio al Chiuso” owned by the Corti family, is located in the heart of Chianti surrounded by magnificent vineyards and olive groves. Our wine is obtained from the best vines of the Chianti area and in full respect of the Tuscan tradition in terms of winemaking. In a bottle of “Poggio al Chiuso” we find, besides the wine, the history, the tradition, the culture of the Chianti area. “Poggio al Chiuso” is located 1 km from Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, a small rural village in the heart of Chianti, straddling the provinces.

“The Corti family has been involved in wine production and trade for four generations. In 1898 Narciso began to buy the wines produced by the farmers in the countryside of Tavarnelle and to sell them in the city of Florence. In those years the wine barrels were loaded onto horse-drawn carriages and to cover the 30 km that divide Tavarnelle from Florence it took a whole day.
Around 1935 also the sons of Narciso, Renzo and Gino, decided to follow his father in his work.
After the Second World War, in 1948, Narciso died and in the following year Renzo and Gino officially obtained the first license for the sale of wines and oil.

A few years later, in 1956, Renzo and Gino felt the need to start producing their own wine and decided to buy the land at Poggio al Chiuso. Approximately 10 hectares of vineyards are planted with prevalence of Sangiovese grapes and three years later they get their first harvest.

In 1960 the son of Renzo, Mario, joins the company that continues both in the business of commerce and in that of production.
In 1971 the “”Putto”” Consortium of Chianti was founded, Poggio al Chiuso became part of the Consortium and the first vintage with a registered designation of origin was produced.

At the end of the 90s also the sons of Mario, Marco and Matteo started working in the company continuing the family tradition.
In the company, the priority is given to Sangiovese, which finds its highest expression in Rosso IGT LECAPPELLE, a harmonious and savory wine with a typical Tuscan character and in the traditional Chianti DOCG also obtained with a percentage of Canaiolo grapes.
In the 2000s Poggio al Chiuso also opened up to non-native grapes. In fact, one hectare and a half of Merlot was planted in 2003, which found an optimal development in our very stony soils. What we get is the Rosso IGT VOLTACCIA 49 produced with 100% Merlot grapes, a very soft and silky wine that at the same time preserves pleasant acidity and freshness.

The other wines are the IGT VOLTACCINO Rosato obtained from Sangiovese grapes, Il Bianco IGT VOLTACCINO a blend of the typical Tuscan white grapes with an addition of Viognier and the IGT VOLTACCINO red wine, the typical everyday wine obtained from Sangiovese, Canaiolo and a small percentage of Merlot.
