Houghton Wines

We've come a long way since 1836 when three army officers first bought the land at Swan Valley. Our history includes tales of pioneer Scots, bandits, long-term friendships and a "passing down of winemaking craft." In 1937 we became known nationwide when our winemaker, Jack Mann, created Houghton White Burgundy. Still highly popular today, Houghton White Classic is sold alongside our elegant Wisdom range and our iconic award winning Cabernet Sauvignons.

The winery is named after one of its first owners - Lieutenant Colonel Richmond Houghton, who started producing wine early with its first commercial vintage - a modest 25 gallons, in 1859.

Houghton is now the tenth-largest red and white bottle brand in Australia, and sources fruit from every major premium grape-growing region in WA, including Gingin, Margaret River, Frankland River and Mount Barker in the Great Southern, and the emerging Pemberton region.

There is plenty to see and do for everyone in the family. Ideal for picnicking and relaxing, our spacious grounds are framed by magnificent Jacaranda trees, which from November to January are covered in stunning purple blossoms.

Our café serves a delicious range of platters and dishes. Meals can be enjoyed inside and outdoors on picnic benches under the Jacarandas or beneath the vines in our outdoor courtyard.

Our light and airy cellar door is perfect for sampling wines from our extensive range. Wine can be purchased to enjoy in our grounds, plus we have a full range of wines available for sale, along with gifts and other specialty items.

While you're here, visit our museum and cellar door where the legendary bushranger 'Moondyne Joe' was captured in 1869. Today, it showcases historic winemaking items and displays of local artworks.
