Napa vs Sonoma for 3 days, no car, which is easier?
Flying in for three days and we won't have a car (neither of us wants to be the sober driver the whole time). Trying to decide Napa vs Sonoma.
What I think I know:
- Napa: more walkable in-town tasting rooms (downtown Napa, Yountville), easier to string together on foot + short rideshares.
- Sonoma: more spread out, more rural, arguably prettier and more relaxed, but harder without a car?
For those who've done either car-free: which actually works better, and did you use a driver service for a day? Budget's mid-range, we like small producers over big brands.
Napa is genuinely easier car-free, downtown Napa + Yountville you can do on foot, then rideshare one afternoon up-valley. Sonoma I'd only do car-free if you hire a driver for a day. But if you want small producers over big brands, Sonoma rewards the effort.
We did Napa with zero car, booked a driver for one day (worth it, split between us) and walked/rideshared the rest. Healdsburg in Sonoma is also surprisingly walkable if you base right on the plaza.
