Barone Pizzini is the first organic winery in Franciacorta. The winery represents a will to reduce environmental impact and to maximize energy savings. The architectural choices function to guarantee the ideal environment for producing wins that respect the environment. Solar panels, a natural cooling system, the use of stone and wood, and phyto-purification of water are just some of the elements that have been employed to build it.
The estate’s 25 vineyards are scattered in different locations across Franciacorta. They cover a total surface area of 47 hectares. The average elevation of the vines is 200/350 meters a.s.l. And their average age is roughly 15 years.
A friend of Biodiversity in Franciacorta: Barone Pizzini is now Certified and at the top of the list of the organization for food and farming certification - CSQA . In 2012 their Franciacorta Rose won the prize as the best organic wine in the world.
Tastings are accompanied by organic Grana Padano cheese, local cured meats from a purveyor who raises his own herd with all-local inputs and who uses solar power for energy, and bakery products made from organic flour from a small local bakery.
First you will visit the vines, where it all begins. On this tour you will experience the essence of Barone Pizzini and observe how the laws of organic viticulture are brought to life. Returning to the winery, which is constructed according to green buIlding principles, you will proceed into two main areas, the first dedicated to vinification and the second – which holds the barrels and bottles of wine aging on the lees – dedicated to aging. Your guide will explain the production method and history of Barone Pizzini, the first winery ever to produce certified organic Franciacorta.
