About Thomas Fogarty Winery
Thomas Fogarty Winery sits at about 2,000 feet on Skyline Boulevard above Woodside, in the northern Santa Cruz Mountains, with one of the most photographed views in Bay Area wine country: the whole of Silicon Valley and the bay spread out below the tasting terrace. It was founded in 1981 by Dr. Thomas Fogarty, the cardiovascular surgeon and medical inventor, and winemaker Michael Martella has made the wines since the beginning.
The estate is planted mainly to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the grapes that suit this cool, fog-brushed ridge, and the winery also makes Cabernet Sauvignon and an aromatic Gewurztraminer. The estate Pinot Noirs, bottled by vineyard block, are the wines to seek out.
Visiting
The tasting room and terrace are open to visitors by reservation, about 45 minutes from San Francisco via Interstate 280 and Highway 84. Tours of the vineyard and winery are offered, and the estate is a popular wedding venue, so weekends can be busy.
