Rutherford Hill commands a spetacular view overlooking the rutherford bench of Napa Valley. The founders of Rutherford Hill believed that the soil and the climate of the valley are similar with Pomerol (Bordeaux), which are well suited for growing Merlot. Rutherford Hill was among the first to pioneer what has become one of Napa's premier varietals.
They were also innovators in Napa Valley in the building of caves and the concept of a pallet-stacking system within those caves.
