About Bethel Heights Vineyard
The Casteel family planted an abandoned walnut grove in 1977, one of the first vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills, and second-generation winemaker Ben Casteel still drops into the tasting room. Tastings are $35 (waived with two bottles) indoors or on a patio facing snow-capped mountains across 85 acres of estate vines; you may bring your own picnic and well-behaved dogs are welcome at both venues. Open daily 11 to 5, reservations recommended, walk-ins welcome.
Visitors single out bring-your-own picnic, mountain views from the deck, family-run feel. The wines to look for are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc. The estate dates from 1977.

Walk-ins most days; book on weekends. About an hour from downtown Portland via 99W or I-5 to Salem, and roughly 30 minutes from Salem; the hills sit between Amity and West Salem.
