About Champagne G. Tribaut
A four-generation grower founded in 1935 in Hautvillers, the hilltop village where Dom Perignon is buried, with just over 12 hectares of Premier Cru vines in Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay. The tasting room looks straight down the slope over the vineyards to the Marne, individual visits take about 30 minutes and the tasting of three samples costs 5 to 15 euros, refunded with a six-bottle purchase. Parking at the door and a year-round welcome make it the easy stop in Hautvillers.
Visitors single out vineyard terrace view, fair prices, blanc de noirs. The wines to look for are Pinot Noir, Meunier, Chardonnay. The estate dates from 1935.
Visiting
Walk-ins most days; book on weekends. About 1 hour 40 minutes from central Paris to Epernay on the A4 and D3; Hautvillers and Ay are 10 minutes beyond Epernay, Passy-Grigny about 30 minutes west.
