About Elk Cove Vineyards
Pat and Joe Campbell founded Elk Cove in 1974 on a steep, shallow-soiled site they chose for its views, and their son Adam, a fifth-generation Oregon farmer, has made the wines since 1995 across six vineyard sites and 380 acres. Seated tastings look out over the Winery Estate Vineyard from the patio or indoors, and the range runs to Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and sparkling as well as Pinot Noir; a 1978 Riesling was an early gold medalist. About 15 minutes south of Forest Grove; open daily 10 to 5, reservations via the website.
Visitors single out vineyard-view patio, second-generation winemaker, whites and sparkling. The wines to look for are Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling. The estate dates from 1974.
Visiting
Book ahead. About 45 minutes west of downtown via US-26 and Highway 47, a quieter alternative to the 99W corridor with a small cluster of wineries around Forest Grove, Cornelius and Gaston.
