Planted in 1969 Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region, located in the northern sub–region of Wilyabrup, Western Australia. Clare & Keith Mugford, as winemakers, viticulturists & proprietors, have been making wine & tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1984 & 1979, respectively.
Their exacting viticulture ensures the production of grapes of excellent quality & they have created a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency over each vintage & their ability to age superbly.
The Moss Wood & Mugford names are synonymous with uncompromising quality.
At Moss Wood we welcome tastings by appointment only.
Visits are provided to winery members only. Our visits are unhurried and you will be guided by knowledgeable and experienced personnel through the winery and be introduced to our history, philosophy, vineyards and wines. You will taste wine from barrel and tank and visit the museum where you will view back vintages of Moss Wood wines. During vintage (February to April) you may see the processing of the grapes and also try pressed juice during various stages of fermentation. A visit to Moss Wood is a rare and sought after experience not to be missed.
Although visits can be requested for times between the hours of 10am and 4pm, on any day other than Sundays, we are a working winery with a small dedicated staff and as such we need at least 2 days notice and may not always be able to accommodate your request. We will always try and if not this time, hopefully on your next visit to the area.
