About Ponzi Vineyards

Dick Ponzi founded Oregon's third winery here in 1970, and the modern tasting room looks over the Avellana Vineyard to the Chehalem Mountains. Chef Eric Ekberg runs an on-site kitchen with seasonal menus, grazing boards and a four-course Laurelwood Table lunch Wednesday to Saturday, and the terrace has bocce courts in season. Open daily 10 to 5; standard tasting $60, refunded with a $120 purchase; reservations recommended, walk-ins welcome.

Visitors single out terrace views, chef-run kitchen, bocce in summer. The wines to look for are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc. The estate dates from 1970.

Visiting

Book ahead. About 40 minutes from downtown Portland via I-5 and Highway 99W through Tigard and Sherwood; 99W is a two-lane highway through Newberg and it slows badly on summer and holiday weekend afternoons.
