Fritz Wieninger has done more than perhaps any other producer to elevate the reputation of Viennese wine on the international stage. Farming 50 hectares of vineyards on the fringes of Vienna — with the city skyline visible on a clear day — Wieninger produces Grüner Veltliner and Riesling of real ambition and complexity from sites like the Bisamberg, rarely seen in wines from a capital city. The estate also operates a popular Heuriger in Stammersdorf, one of Vienna's most authentic wine suburbs, where the local tradition of young wine and hearty food remains very much alive.
