Manousakis shows how far Cretan wine can range. Theodoros "Ted" Manousakis founded it in 1993 at Vatolakkos, in the hills above Chania, and built his Nostos wines around Rhone grapes, planting Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Roussanne where most of Crete grows its natives. "Nostos" means the longing to return home, which is what drew Ted back to his family's Chania roots.
In 2010 the winery added the indigenous white Vidiano, and it also bottles the local Romeiko. There is a tasting terrace and restaurant, with complimentary tours in season.
