About Bodega El Fabulista
Seven metres below the 17th-century palace where the fable writer Felix Maria de Samaniego lived, in the middle of walled Laguardia. The visit starts in the square with the story of the palace, then drops into the four calados (rock-cut cellars) where the wine is made, aged and tasted. It is the one Rioja cellar you can reach on foot from the Alavabus stop, and it opens every day of the week.
Visitors single out underground medieval cellars, walkable from the bus, open daily. The wines to look for are Tempranillo.
Visiting
Book ahead. About 130 km south via the AP-68, roughly 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 minutes from Bilbao to Laguardia; Vitoria-Gasteiz is 45 minutes away.
