Roland Velich founded Moric in 2001 with a single-minded focus on old-vine Blaufränkisch — Austria's most important red grape — and the result has been some of the most compelling red wine produced anywhere in Central Europe. Working with ancient, ungrafted vines in Burgenland's Mittelburgenland district, Velich produces wines of extraordinary transparency and terroir expression that have attracted attention from wine critics and collectors worldwide. Moric is a wine pilgrim's destination rather than a tourist attraction — visits are by appointment and appeal primarily to serious enthusiasts.
